MORPHIA - FADING BEAUTY (*NEW-CD, 2005, Fear Dark Records) Christian Doom/Death Metal

ABOUT THE ALBUM
'Fading Beauty', the third masterpiece of Morphia, tells about the depths of darkness, death and struggles in live. Again this Holland band brings you a mix of symphonic doom and gothic-metal, even stronger that their debut and 'Frozen Dust' ''Fading Beauty' is Morphia's third album, filled with emotional symphonic doom and gothic metal. Morphia from the Netherlands started back in 1995 as a deathmetal act, but soon transferred into a symphonic doom act. 'Fading Beauty' is Morphia strongest album so far; an album which will put Morphia on an imaginary map of doomland. The strength of Morphia's third album lies within the large variation of songs. From ballads until strong doomsongs like the ones of My Dying Bride. Melancholic music with clean vocals, dark and low grunts and higher grunts. Exactly that combination of vocals makes sure you'll pay attention to the music during the whole 1 hour and 1 minute playing time of this album. The title song of 'Fading Beauty' is one of my favorites, because of the dark, sorrowful, gloomy and sinister atmosphere of this song. 'Serenity' is even better; the last song to be found on 'Fading Beauty' is rough and sensitive at the same time. Although there are enough interesting songs to be found on this album, there are some losing points also. Morphia's third album is definitely the best they've done so far, however it still doesn't belong to the absolute masterpieces of the genre. Progression can be heard in every song, but the band needs to develop more to distinguish themselves from the masses. Technical tour de forces are still far away and some songs (like the ballad 'Meaning of Forever II' with too girly vocals) are even quite disturbing considering the greater songs of this album. Generally, Morphia has done a great job with their third full-length album 'Fading Beauty'. I'm wondering how the next album will sound. If Morphia continues in the same way of progression; the next albums will be better and better and may even belong to the better ones of the genre.' Vampire Magazine
