LARRY NORMAN - COPPER WIRES (NEW-CD, 1999, Spark Music)
This is a little rare, however for the Larry Norman fan it may well be worth seeking out. First, the 4 live songs, these are from a Street Level Cafe Internet Party in 1997.
To be honest there is nothing new here which cannot be found on many other releases. However most of the studio tracks from 1998 are either good or, in some cases, wonderful and need further inspection.
I Love You is an update from People's single from 1968 and it works very well.
In The Garden is outstanding in it's description of the Garden Of Eden, beautifully sung with suitably excellent production.
Heaven Wants To Bless You is an uplifting song about God's love for all his children.
Oh Little Sister and When He Returns are Bob Dylan writes which Larry covers well, as are Turn Turn Turn and I Am A Pilgrim, both made famous by The Byrds.
Protect My Child, Oil In My Lamp and Sleepwalk, a rare instrumental, are not that good and then there is Curtis Mayfield's People Get Ready.
This really is a super rendition with Charles Norman's lead guitar driving melodically, it's as good as any other guitarist I have heard.
While Larry made some concert appearances and released some new material post Copper Wires, it may be he was unable to reach these heights again.
