Luxury ‎– The Latest And The Greatest (*NEW-CD, 1996, Tooth & Nail)

Luxury has made me realize not all new rock bands are churning out worthless drivel! First off all, I'd like to comment that the first song "The Latest and the Greatest" isn't a shameless self-promotion. The band IS NOT speaking of themselves when they sing "I'm the greatest...the world should know that by now." Listen to the rest of the lyrics on the album to understand the deeper meanings of some of these seemingly self-promoting lyrics. "Metropolitan" is one of the best rock songs in years! Its catchy and absolutely rails against the "post-modern" mindset. Its a sarcastic, and unfortunately all-too-accurate portrait of things in this country. "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time. Its sobering and helps one to sit back and evaluate what the important things in life really are. These guys almost lost their lives in a severe car accident and this song addresses some of the issues that must've gone through their minds during those torrential times. Its a real wake-up call to all of us to live a better life. One should listen to it everyday to keep one's self in check. Its realistic, but hopefull. "The Pearls" is a beautiful closer to the album...a true call to "Taste the Fountain of Immortality!"
