Unclassifiable but essential!
Windy Lyre is the wife of Michael Knott, who's been doing his own brand of dark, moody Christian music since the mid-80s with Lifesavers Underground/L.S.U. and the Aunt Bettys. This album is in line with that sound to some degree, though here the music is both more sparse and a little brighter. It's hard to pigeonhole. Echoey guitar over simple but deep bass lines, mostly in minor keys but with an upbeat sound and a message of hope. The signing and melodies are simple and somewhat repetitive, but they give the listener a trance-like feel that can be suitable for worship and meditation.
Windy definitely sings her faith from a personal viewpoint, as in "Illumination" ("Nothing is the same, nothing if the same, since my illumination"), and on "The Day I Die" ("I'll be in the arms of my Lord/ He'll wipe away the water from my eyes/ On the day I die, on the day I die").

Fans of dark 80s bands like Joy Division and Depeche Mode will find someone from their tribe in this album, but with a decided twist of simplicity and hope. Get this for sure, and look also for her 2009 release "Overflow" (if you can find it!).
