Jewel Case release
Originally released in 1992 on REX Records, Mindwarp stands as the one and only album recorded by Scott Albert and producer Doug Mann under the name Brainchild. In January 2005, the album received a limited-edition reissue (1,000 copies) on Retroactive Records, bringing renewed attention to this pivotal release.
Not long after its original release, Scott Albert revisited the material—remixing and partially re-recording the album in 1994, retitling it Brainchild and reissuing it under the new band name Circle of Dust. However, this edition preserves the original 1992 incarnation—where the band name is Brainchild and the album title is Mindwarp—as it was first heard.
A landmark release in early industrial metal, Mindwarp delivers a relentless blend of programmed drum assaults, dense layers of sound effects, and an onslaught of musical and spoken-word samples, creating an immersive, futuristic listening experience. An HM Magazine reviewer described the album as “capturing the futuristic sound of industrial music with its rapidly programmed drum beats, sound effects, and the bombardment of musical and spoken-word samples—creating the sense that the listener is experiencing a multimedia musical event.”
This reissue has been digitally remastered, with the original artwork carefully enhanced, and includes a 4-page lyric insert.
