Thirty-five years after its original 1991 release, Seventh Angel’s Lament For The Weary returns in a massive deluxe 2-CD Collector’s Edition featuring 15 bonus tracks, an entire disc of rare archival material, two newly written band-member reflections, a collector’s O-card slipcase, and an exclusive limited-edition band collector card.

Released only one year after Seventh Angel’s debut, Lament For The Weary moved beyond the direct thrash-metal attack of The Torment and into darker, heavier, and more emotionally complex territory. The album combines aggressive British thrash, crushing doom-laden riffs, haunting melodic passages, and the unmistakable vocals and guitar work of Ian Arkley.

While many doom albums remain locked into one slow and fixed pace, Lament For The Weary continually varies its style and tempo. The songs move between oppressive heaviness, urgent thrash, quiet reflection, melodic passages, and triumphant release. The result is fantastic doomy metal with a dark and thrashy edge—and an album that has earned lasting recognition as one of Christian extreme metal’s most important recordings.

Lament For The Weary is a concept album following the spiritual journey of a person carrying the trauma of childhood abuse. The earlier songs descend into isolation, depression, fear, and hopelessness. As the album progresses, the central character begins moving toward faith, healing, and the assurance expressed in the album’s powerful conclusion. The realism and emotional weight of the story give the album unusual depth and make its eventual movement toward hope all the more effective.

Highlights include “Falling Away From Reality,” “Passing Of Years,” “Secure In Eternity,” and the triumphant “Farewell To Human Cries.” The massive, plodding guitars give Seventh Angel’s sound tremendous weight, while the shifting arrangements and melodic sections keep the album compelling throughout its length.

This expanded 2-CD edition adds 15 rare bonus tracks, including an entire second disc devoted to live and practice recordings from 1992.

Disc One expands the original album with two rare recordings from the Heed The Warning demo: “Heed The Warning” and “Seven Angels.”

Disc Two begins with five live soundboard recordings captured in Eindhoven, Holland, on October 11, 1992:

✍️ Two New 2026 Band-Member Reflections

The 16-page booklet includes two newly written 2026 firsthand reflections from members of the classic Seventh Angel lineup.

Ian Arkley provides an extensive new account of the album’s concept, the rewriting of its lyrics, the circumstances surrounding the recording, and how his perspective has changed during the intervening 35 years.

Arkley also shares the history of the newly released 1992 practice tape. He recalls that it was recorded quietly in his bedroom at his parents’ home in Halesowen in the West Midlands, using small amplifiers and an unamplified practice kit. The recording preserves early lyrics and arrangements from a turbulent period of transition within the band.

Simon “Si” Bibby contributes a second new reflection addressing his departure from Seventh Angel, the heartbreak of hearing the completed album after leaving the band, and his eventual return to making music with his former bandmates.

These are not recycled promotional notes. They are two exclusive new contributions written in 2026, offering personal insight into the people, emotions, and circumstances behind this landmark album and its newly released archival recordings.
