STUCK MOJO β SNAPPIN' NECKS: THE EXPLOSIVE 1995 DEBUT THAT HELPED DEFINE RAP-METAL
Before Pigwalk, before Rising, and before Stuck Mojo became one of the most recognizable names in underground rap-metal, there was Snappin' Necks. Released in 1995 through Century Media Records, this explosive debut introduced a band that refused to recognize the boundaries separating heavy metal, hardcore, and hip-hop. At a time when the relationship between these musical worlds was still developing, Stuck Mojo delivered an uncompromising combination of bone-crushing riffs, aggressive rap vocals, and relentless rhythmic intensity.
Built around the extraordinary chemistry between guitarist Rich Ward and vocalist Bonz, Stuck Mojo developed a sound that was immediately recognizable. Ward's crushing guitar tone and precision groove-metal riffing provided the foundation, while Bonz attacked the microphone with an explosive mixture of streetwise rhymes, hardcore aggression, and confrontational social commentary. Bassist Dwayne Fowler and drummer Brent Payne completed the original lineup, creating a rhythm section capable of shifting from pounding metallic heaviness to tightly locked hip-hop grooves.
"Not Promised Tomorrow" opens the album with an urgent statement of purpose, immediately establishing the band's musical identity. The title track, "Snappin' Necks," follows with the kind of aggressive, riff-heavy attack that would become Stuck Mojo's trademark. "F.O.D." and "The Beginning of the End" reinforce the band's confrontational energy, while "Cake," "2 Minutes of Death," and "Who's the Devil" demonstrate their willingness to experiment with tempo, rhythm, and vocal delivery.
Elsewhere, "Monkey Behind the Wheel," "Uncle Sam Sham," and "Propaganda" reveal a band with plenty to say. Their lyrics confront prejudice, social division, media manipulation, and personal frustration, delivered with the force of a band determined to be heard. The musical collision is equally compelling: monstrous guitar riffs, propulsive bass lines, pounding drums, and Bonz's distinctive vocal attack combine to make Snappin' Necks a recording that sounds as aggressive and uncompromising as its title suggests.
This Brutal Planet Records edition expands the original album with FIVE BONUS TRACKS. Early recordings of "Love Has No Colour," "Hotlanta," and "Babylon" offer a fascinating glimpse into the band's formative period. An alternate demo of "Propaganda" provides another perspective on one of the album's most memorable songs, while a live performance of "F.O.D." captures the raw energy that helped make Stuck Mojo such a formidable concert attraction.
Remastered by Rob Colwell and presented in a jewel case with a 12-page booklet, this limited Metal Icon Series edition preserves the original album's striking artwork, photographs, lyrics, and historical credits. The expanded track selection makes it an especially satisfying way to revisit the beginnings of a band whose influence reached well beyond the underground metal scene.
More than three decades after its original release, Snappin' Necks remains an important document of rap-metal's formative years. It's loud, aggressive, unapologetic, and overflowing with the attitude that made Stuck Mojo impossible to ignore. For longtime fans, this edition brings together the debut and valuable bonus material. For newer listeners, it's the perfect starting point for discovering where the Stuck Mojo story began.
Limited to only 500 CDs worldwide β 16 tracks, newly remastered, with a 12-page booklet!
