WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT PLEASE COME HOME...MR. BULBOUS....

That record (Tape Head), Mr. Bulbous, Manic Moonlight....we...made those records together, wrote together and that's how those records came about.  And that's kind of a nice period for me - to think just the three of us can do that.  They are three of my favorite records.
(from King's X: An Oral History)   Jerry Gaskill (King's X drummer)

I have to say I love PCHMB. In fact for me it wasn't even a "grower." I took to it right from the get go. It's maybe my 2nd favorite KX album after Gretchen.

Ty played the lead on the song ("She's Gone Away") - just to have a scratch track where the lead was. But the one take lead was so good, we wouldn't let him re-do it. And, it's probably one of the best leads I've ever heard him do.
(from King's X: An Oral History)   Doug Pinnick (lead vocalist, King's X)

I remember coming up with the most unpredictable chord progression ever, and then working with Doug on making a melody.....I remember we did whatever we had to to get the line down.... But it turned out being super-cool when it finally clicked.
(from King's X: An Oral History)   Ty Tabor (guitarist, King's X)

Ty's shining moment comes in "She's Gone Away," which contains quite possibly the finest King's X guitar solo ever committed to tape. Ty's soaring tones, powered by his new signature-model Yamaha guitar, have never sounded better. Jerry has long been the unsung hero of King's X. Here, with his poetic interludes, he finally gets his chance to take the forefront                        Phantom Tollbooth Reviews

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Originally released in 2000, Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous stands as one of the most creative, unpredictable, and emotionally resonant albums in the King’s X discography. A product of pure artistic freedom, this record was written collaboratively in the studio by all three band members, resulting in one of the most cohesive and inspired bodies of work the band ever created. Free from the expectations of commercial radio or label interference, Mr. Bulbous is King’s X unfiltered—bold, strange, and strikingly beautiful.

The album’s title—like much of its charm—defies easy explanation. In the spirit of Gretchen Goes to Nebraska, the band chose a name that felt curious, quirky, and maybe even meaningless… or maybe it meant everything. What unfolded musically was an ambitious and emotive journey, with tracks like “Fish Bowl Man,” “Julia,” and “She’s Gone Away” serving as standout moments of depth and experimentation. Ty Tabor’s guitar solo on “She’s Gone Away” is often hailed as one of the greatest of his career—recorded in a single take, raw and perfect. Jerry Gaskill’s contributions as a lyricist and vocalist are more prominent here than ever before, adding layers of poetic nuance to the album’s texture. Doug Pinnick’s signature soulful presence anchors the record with undeniable heart and groove.

What once may have seemed like a left turn for the band has aged into a fan-favorite classic. Even those who didn’t immediately connect with Mr. Bulbous upon its release now celebrate its lasting impact and layered brilliance. As Jerry Gaskill reflected years later, Tape Head, Mr. Bulbous, and Manic Moonlight represent a special time for the band—records created shoulder to shoulder, in complete unity.

Now, for the first time ever, Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous receives the deluxe vinyl treatment it so richly deserves. Remastered in 2025 by Rob Colwell (King’s X, Nevermore, Galactic Cowboys) with incredible sonic clarity, the album is presented on stunning dusk-orange vinyl—limited to just 150 copies worldwide. The reissue includes a 12x12 full-color insert featuring lyrics and rare band photos, all housed in a premium jacket as part of Brutal Planet Records’ exclusive Limited Run Vinyl series.

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of King’s X’s most daring and rewarding albums—a record that challenged expectations and emerged as a timeless work of musical integrity. Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous isn’t just a title; it’s a mysterious invitation into a world that only King’s X could create. For fans of The Beatles, Extreme, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, In Living Color, Rush!
