🎸 ABOUT THE ALBUM — PASSAFIST

APOCALYPTIC YELLOW VINYL. ONLY 200 COPIES. EXCLUSIVE 2026 LINER NOTES BY DAVE PERKINS. MASTERED FOR VINYL BY ROB COLWELL!

Some albums defy categorization. Others seem determined to destroy the categories altogether. PASSAFIST belongs firmly in the second group.

Originally released by R.E.X. Records in 1994, Passafist was the unlikely creation of musicians who had already helped shape some of the most adventurous sounds in alternative rock. Following the end of Chagall Guevara, guitarists Dave Perkins and Lynn Nichols reunited for a project that would push their musical experimentation into darker, stranger, and considerably louder territory. Joining them was John Elliott of Dessau, whose industrial programming and vocals became essential to the album's identity, along with Michael Saleem and Mustafa Abdul-Aleem of Afrikan Dreamland, whose percussion and rhythmic contributions added another dimension to the music.

The result was a seven-song collision of industrial electronics, distorted guitars, aggressive rhythms, samples, funk, and alternative rock. It was muscular, unpredictable, frequently abrasive, and filled with a wicked sense of humor. Rather than follow the conventions of the emerging industrial rock scene, Passafist assembled its own sound from the very different musical backgrounds of its collaborators.

The project began with "Christ of the Nuclear Age," a song Perkins originally wrote for a proposed film soundtrack. Working with Elliott, he combined vintage guitar tones with electronic drums and synth bass. When R.E.X. Records heard the recording, the label encouraged Perkins to develop an entire album in that direction. Nichols joined the adventure, and Passafist was born.

From the hypnotic, industrial-meets-Middle-Eastern atmosphere of "Emmanuel Chant" to the menacing intensity of "Glock," the album delivers its social commentary through relentless musical experimentation. "Lov-E900" satirizes the commercialization of sex, while "Appliance Alliance" explores technology's growing influence over modern life.

The band's thunderous reconstruction of the Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man" fits naturally alongside its original material. But perhaps the album's most audacious moment is the sprawling "The Dr. Is In (Or How I Learned to Worry and Start Missing the Cold War)." Drawing inspiration from Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove, the nearly eleven-minute composition combines film dialogue, industrial rhythms, jazz-inflected passages, distorted guitars, and nuclear-age satire into an unforgettable finale.

THE 2027 RETROACTIVE RECORDS VINYL COLLECTOR'S EDITION: Retroactive Records brings Passafist to collectors on striking APOCALYPTIC YELLOW VINYL, STRICTLY LIMITED TO 200 COPIES. Mastered for vinyl by ROB COLWELL, the release includes a full-color jacket and a TWO-SIDED ILLUSTRATED INSERT featuring lyrics, album credits, original artwork, and exclusive new reflections from Dave Perkins.

EXCLUSIVE 2026 LINER NOTES FROM DAVE PERKINS! In his essay Passafist Rearview, Perkins takes listeners behind the scenes of this remarkable recording. He recalls the film project that inspired "Christ of the Nuclear Age," the reaction from R.E.X. Records, the crucial role John Elliott played in shaping the album's sound, and the painstaking process of assembling samples from Dr. Strangelove. His reflections bring a rare firsthand perspective to one of the most unusual albums of the era.

More than three decades after its original release, Passafist remains a fascinating musical experiment. Its collision of guitar-driven alternative rock, industrial electronics, unconventional rhythms, and sharply satirical songwriting still sounds distinctive. The album is provocative, frequently funny, occasionally unsettling, and completely unwilling to fit neatly into anyone's expectations.

With ONLY 200 APOCALYPTIC YELLOW VINYL COPIES, new historical liner notes from Dave Perkins, and a beautifully illustrated insert, this LEGENDS REMASTERED EDITION gives collectors an opportunity to rediscover a singular recording from the 1990s alternative underground.

FOR FANS OF: Circle of Dust, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Chagall Guevara, Dessau, and industrial-era alternative rock.
