ABOUT THE ALBUM

Originally released in 1979, Hold On Tight captures Sweet Comfort Band at a fascinating point in their musical evolution. The jazz-fusion and R&B influences that helped define their earlier work remain, but the band was beginning to move toward the polished melodic rock and pop sound that would become increasingly prominent on subsequent albums.

At the center of it all is Bryan Duncan, whose soulful, instantly recognizable voice soars throughout the record. Duncan is joined by guitarist/vocalist Randy Thomas, bassist Kevin Thomson, and drummer/vocalist Rick Thomson—a lineup capable of moving effortlessly between sophisticated jazz-influenced arrangements, soulful pop, progressive textures, and hook-filled melodic rock.

Produced by Jesus Music veteran Tom Stipe, Hold On Tight also features an exceptional supporting cast. Richie Furay of Buffalo Springfield and Poco contributes backing vocals, while Alex MacDougall of the Phil Keaggy Band adds percussion. Bob Wilson of Seawind provides horn arrangements, with the legendary Seawind Horns—Jerry Hey, Kim Hutchcroft, Bill Reichenbach, and Larry Williams—once again bringing their unmistakable sound to the album.

The musical range is impressive.
