GAME CHANGERS: The Long-Awaited Reissues of Gospel Gangstaz & S.F.C.
Available for Pre-Order on February 20, 7 PM CST at BoonesOverstock.com
Christian rap and hip-hop had its share of early pioneers, but for many years, it struggled to find a sound that could stand toe-to-toe with mainstream hip-hop. Many early efforts lacked the raw authenticity, production quality, and street-level credibility to break through. That all changed with Gospel Gangstaz and S.F.C. – two groups that didn’t just participate in the genre but helped redefine it.
Retroactive Records is honored to reissue the following first-time-ever Christian rap and hip-hop releases, ensuring these game-changing albums are preserved for a new generation of listeners:
🔥 Gospel Gangstaz - Gang Affiliated (300 CD / 200 Vinyl)
🔥 S.F.C. - Phase III (300 CD / 200 Vinyl)
🔥 S.F.C. - Saved Man in the Jungle (300 CD)
These albums weren’t just music; they were monuments—statements of faith and raw street-level storytelling that set a new standard for Christian hip-hop.
S.F.C. - PHASE III (1992) & SAVED MAN IN THE JUNGLE (1990)
"Before CHH had a blueprint, S.F.C. laid the foundation."
Before Lecrae, before Cross Movement, before CHH became a recognized genre—Soldiers for Christ (S.F.C.) were among the first to prove Christian rap could be serious, lyrical, and culturally relevant.
✔ S.F.C. - Phase III marked a significant evolution in Christian hip-hop, moving beyond novelty and into a more refined sound—both lyrically and sonically. The production was sharper, the rhymes were tighter, and the themes were deeper. It showed that Christian rap could have lyrical complexity and thematic weight.
✔ S.F.C. - Saved Man in the Jungle was a bold bold album, pushing the envelope with harder beats, deeper social commentary, and a grittier aesthetic. It wasn't just music—it was ministry on wax, reaching urban communities with a message of hope that still sounded relevant.
Both albums were game changers, bringing a new level of legitimacy to Christian rap at a time when the genre desperately needed a defining voice.
GOSPEL GANGSTAZ - GANG AFFILIATED (1994)
"From the streets to salvation—real testimony, real impact."
When Gospel Gangstaz emerged with Gang Affiliated, they weren’t playing around. This was the album that proved Christian hip-hop could be just as real, raw, and musically excellent as anything coming out of the mainstream West Coast scene.
Formed by former gang members from the streets of Compton, Mr. Solo, Chille’ Baby, and Tik Tokk brought something unheard of at the time—a legitimate street-credible testimony wrapped in top-tier production. Instead of a watered-down Christianized imitation of gangsta rap, they delivered a true West Coast G-funk album that stood side-by-side with releases from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube.
Why It Was a Game Changer:
✔ Authenticity: These weren’t outsiders preaching from a distance. They lived it, survived it, and testified to transformation.
✔ Production: The beats and hooks were every bit as polished as anything in the mainstream scene.
✔ Influence: This album broke barriers, proving Christian rap could exist within hip-hop culture without compromise.
Many consider Gang Affiliated the first fully-realized Christian gangsta rap album—an album that didn’t just talk about faith but lived it without losing its edge.
This long-awaited reissue brings this revered classic back on CD (limited to 300 copies) and for the first time ever on vinyl (limited to 200 copies).

SFC's CHRIS COOPER / SUPER C (Sup the Chemist)
#1 Christian Rapper of All-Time
(Rapzilla)
If we’re all standing on the shoulders of giants, we are most definitely standing on the shoulders of Sup The Chemist of SFC (Soldiers For Christ). In addition to his own artistic contributions, of beats and rhymes, his blazing of trails helped to build an infrastructure and economy that all who are involved today continue to benefit from. He also continually introduced listeners to other artists, such as the Tunnel Rats and Gospel Gangstaz to name a few.
If Christian hip-hop were to attempt to pinpoint a founder, it may as well be Sup the Chemist. His unrivaled influence isn’t why he’s on the list, though. He is the whole package and was ahead of his time artistically.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
Before Christian hip-hop found its mainstream voice, there was A Saved Man (In The Jungle)—a raw, fearless, and unapologetically bold statement that shattered expectations and kicked open the doors for a new wave of faith-fueled rap. Originally released in 1990 on BAI/Broken Records, this long out-of-print classic remains a pivotal moment in hip-hop history, merging street-level authenticity with an uncompromising message of redemption.
SFC (Soldiers for Christ) wasn’t just another rap act—they were pioneers. At a time when hip-hop barely had a foothold in the Christian music world, SFC stood alongside the likes of ETW and pre-Free at Last dc Talk, proving that rap had a place in faith-based music. Led by Chris Cooper—better known as Super C, later Soup the Chemist, and eventually Sup the Chemist—SFC brought a level of credibility unmatched by their contemporaries. With razor-sharp lyricism and beats that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of the era, A Saved Man (In The Jungle) blended hardcore hip-hop with jazz and reggae influences, drawing inspiration from Public Enemy, N.W.A., and Ice Cube.
This groundbreaking album features guest MCs Dynamic Twins, M.C. Peace, and Poetic Lee, adding even more firepower to an already explosive record. The production, mixed and engineered by Gene Eugene (Adam Again/Lost Dogs), weaves in elements of funk, gospel, and comedy, with samples ranging from Saturday Night Live’s Church Lady to Adam Again’s signature grooves. The track "Can’t Wait" even nods to classic rock, incorporating Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Down on the Corner into its infectious hook.
Now, for the first time in decades, A Saved Man (In The Jungle) returns in a Legends Remastered CD edition, meticulously remastered by Rob Colwell. This 2025 Retroactive Records release is limited to just 300 copies and comes housed in a jewel case with a 12-page booklet featuring lyrics. With its iconic cover stylized to read both SAVED and SLAVED, this album continues to challenge, inspire, and move listeners.
Sup the Chemist once told CCM Magazine that his mission was to “reach drug sellers, club hoppers, and other people you wouldn’t find sitting down and listening to a church choir.” More than 30 years later, that mission still resonates. Whether you’re revisiting this classic or discovering it for the first time, A Saved Man (In The Jungle) demands to be heard—loud and unfiltered. Don’t sleep on this reissue, because once it’s gone, it’s gone. For fans of Public Enemy, N.W.A., Sup the Chemist, E.T.W., Ice Cube.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
SFC – Phase III (Legends Remastered Series)
If Christian hip-hop had a Mount Rushmore, Sup the Chemist (Chris Cooper) would be front and center. Named the #1 Christian Rapper of All-Time by Rapzilla, his pioneering work with SFC (Soldiers For Christ) not only set the foundation for an entire genre but also built an infrastructure that continues to support artists today. With razor-sharp lyricism, hard-hitting beats, and a mission to reach those outside the church walls, Sup helped elevate faith-based hip-hop from an underground movement to a force that demanded attention.
Originally released in 1992 on BAI/Broken Records, Phase III stands as one of the most important hip-hop albums of its time. It seamlessly blends reggae, jazz, and R&B influences into its production, pushing creative boundaries long before genre-blending was commonplace. This long out-of-print classic was mixed by Gene Eugene (Adam Again, Lost Dogs) and executive-produced by Ojo Taylor (Undercover), further proving its deep roots in the alternative Christian music scene.
Musically and lyrically, Phase III pulls no punches. Tracks like "Kill the Spirit" feature guest raps from Alliance of Light, who would later become the legendary Gospel Gangstaz. DJ Dove lays down scratches throughout the album, while Todd Stevens (XL from XL & DBD) provides bass and background vocals, adding to the album’s rich sonic depth. Sup’s verses cut through with conviction, speaking directly to the streets with the same energy and authenticity as Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and N.W.A. This was Christian rap with no compromises—bold, unfiltered, and unapologetic.
Now, for the first time ever, Phase III returns as part of the Legends Remastered Series on Retroactive Records in a limited-edition pressing of just 300 CDs. Fully remastered by Rob Colwell, this deluxe edition features a 12-page booklet with lyrics housed in a classic jewel case. This is a must-have for collectors, a historic group that sold over 100,000 copies in the ‘90s, with this album having been impossible to find for decades.
Sup once told CCM Magazine that his mission was to “reach drug sellers, club hoppers, and other people you wouldn’t find sitting down and listening to a church choir.” More than 30 years later, that mission still resonates. Whether you’re rediscovering Phase III or hearing it for the first time, this is hip-hop history—preserved, restored, and ready to be heard again.
Don’t sleep on this one. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
In 1994, at the height of the gangsta rap era, Gospel Gangstaz emerged with Gang Affiliated, a game-changing debut that redefined the possibilities of Christian hip-hop. As former members of the notorious Crips and Bloods, the group brought an authenticity to the genre that was unparalleled. Founder Mr. Solo turned to Christ after surviving a gang-related shooting, and with DJ Dove (of SFC) handling production, they crafted an album that was both a raw reflection of street life and a bold declaration of faith.
The album didn't shy away from the realities of the hood. Police brutality, gang violence, drug dealing, and systemic struggles were all addressed with an unfiltered honesty that made Gang Affiliated a controversial yet undeniably powerful statement. Its fearless approach led to resistance from some Christian retailers, who balked at the group's use of gang slang, particularly the word "nigga." Yet, the album’s refusal to conform only made it more impactful. The streets recognized its truth, and even mainstream artists like Coolio, Snoop Dogg, Salt ’n Pepa, and Run-D.M.C. gave it their respect.
Despite the Christian market’s hesitancy, Gang Affiliated became a landmark release. It peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and was later ranked No. 1 in HM Magazine’s July/August 2010 list of the Top 20 Christian Hip-Hop Albums of All Time. It also secured a spot at No. 37 on the list of Greatest Christian Albums of All Time. More than just an album, Gang Affiliated was a cultural statement, proving that Christian rap could stand toe-to-toe with its secular counterparts without sacrificing authenticity.
Musically, the production was a step ahead of most Christian rap of the era. Gospel Gangstaz delivered a polished sound that held its own against the biggest West Coast releases. Sampling mainstream rap tracks—something almost unheard of in Christian music at the time—gave it an edge that made it all the more groundbreaking. The album’s messages, though deeply rooted in the issues of the ’90s, remain strikingly relevant.
To curb controversy, two interview segments with a pastor were included in the album, acknowledging the pushback Gang Affiliated would inevitably face. Yet, its impact was undeniable. In a world where Christian hip-hop often struggled to be taken seriously, Gospel Gangstaz brought credibility, truth, and hard-hitting beats to the table. If Gang Affiliated had been released in the mainstream, it would be mentioned in the same breath as The Chronic, Doggystyle, Straight Outta Compton, and Life Is…Too Short.
The album remains a landmark in Christian hip-hop—a fearless, boundary-pushing release that still stands the test of time. Now, remastered by Rob Colwell and reissued as part of Retroactive Records' Legends Remastered series, Gang Affiliated is back in a way that honors its legacy. This special edition comes with a 12-page lyric booklet and a jewel case, limited to just 300 copies. It’s a must-have for fans of Ice Cube, MC Eiht, N.W.A, Eazy-E, Above The Law, and early Snoop Dogg. If you’ve never heard it before, now is the time to experience one of the most important and uncompromising Christian rap albums ever made.
