Overview

Thrash and death metal rise from the deepest depths of the sea on Terraphobic, the crushing full-length release from Dagon, hailing from Lansing, Michigan. Fusing their obsession with oceanic themes with influences drawn from thrash, death metal, black metal, and classic ’80s heavy metal, Dagon delivers a sound that is aggressive, memorable, and fiercely original.

Formed from the ashes of brutal metal band Bestiary, Dagon first made waves with their EP Secrets of the Deep, a collection of ocean-themed thrash anthems packed with savage vocals and ripping guitar leads. The EP caught the attention of Bombworks Records, leading to the band’s debut full-length Paranormal Ichthyology (2006), which received strong reviews and helped build a devoted underground following.

With Terraphobic, the band takes a clear step forward in both songwriting and execution. The album features sharper melodies, more complex and memorable lyrics, blistering drumming, prominent bass, and slick, dueling guitar leads. Vocal duties are shared between Randall and Truck, delivering a brutal contrast of Cryptopsy-style gutturals and piercing black-metal shrieks that perfectly complement the band’s maritime war-metal aesthetic.

Recorded at Random Awesome! Studios—known for work with labels such as Facedown Records, Blood & Ink Records, and Torque Records—Terraphobic sounds powerful, clear, and relentless. In addition to ten brand-new tracks, the album also includes a re-recorded version of fan favorite “Feeding Frenzy” from the band’s earlier EP.

Musically anchored in thrash, but enriched with elements of death, black, and classic metal, Terraphobic draws influence from Dark Tranquillity, Iron Maiden, Hypocrisy, and Slayer. This is a record built for headbanging, high seas warfare, and total sonic assault.
