WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE NEVERMORE DEBUT....
“I always view the first Nevermore record as a very rough progression from Sanctuary,” affirms Dane. “We were still trying to find our identity back then, and that first record really is demos that we did with Neil Kernon here in Seattle, and we didn‘t really expect them to become a proper record. But after Century Media heard the demos, they said, ‘you don‘t really need to re-record this because it sounds like a record already.’
Warrel Dane (Nevermore / Sanctuary vocalist)
ABOUT THE ALBUM
Nevermore's first from 1995! If you've heard their later material, this one serves as foreshadowing of their future endeavors. It is an impressive example of how a modern metal band can choose to innovate rather than replicate, a methodology that has allowed Nevermore to stand out from among their peers. The talent of the band members is undeniable. Jeff Loomis is one of the mightiest axemen to hit scene in the last decade and he doesn't hold back here. His riffing isn't as complex here as it would be in the future, but his guitar solos are inspiring. Every solo is original, melodic, and technically challenging, pretty much what a guitar solo should be. Warrell Dane's vocals are refreshing amidst the horrible screamo-oriented singing of pretty much every other band heralded as the "new gods of heavy metal!!" Dane's voice is quite unique, ranging from a haunting low register to a hellish falsetto. Van Williams is one hell of a progressive drummer and his playing is an important aspect to Nevermore's innate heaviness. Jim Sheppard doesn't warrant the attention that the other members generally receive, but his playing is tight and essential to the riffing. You'd be hard pressed to find a more talented group, and this is only their debut album. And the talent continues with top-shelf songwriting. Each song is memorable in its own right. Many fusing mellower, atmospheric elements to counterpoint the outright heaviness that is generally dominant. Lyrics are intelligent and well-versed, and expertly sung by Dane. They are very memorable! Expect a lot of the riffs to be thrash-influenced, which feels more like Sanctuary than Nevermore. The song structures and lyrics hint at progressive metal foundations, and occasionally there are parts that are reminiscent of power metal. Expect a solid, original, modern metal album worthy of respectable praise from critics and fans a like! The 2022 Brutal Planet Records GoldMax CD remaster includes five hard-to-find bonus tracks (and a foil-stamped Ltd band Collector Card) along with an expanded booklet with lyrics and band pics! WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE NEVERMORE - OBSIDIAN....
I personally find it to be instantly enjoyable, from Warrel Dane's dramatic vocals, to Jeff Loomis' insane guitar wizardry to the machine-like efficiency of the bands rhythm section; drummer Van Williams and bassist Jim Sheppard. Time will tell if this CD holds up against the classic albums from the Nevermore catalog.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
Nevermore has always held a special place in the metal community with both fans and other bands alike looking up to and respecting them. It isn’t hard to see why they command this level of respect, with world-class guitarist Jeff Loomis and vocalist extraordinaire Warrel Dane both calling Nevermore home. Because of this high profile and superb talent, a lot is expected from Nevermore and for the most part, album to album, Nevermore have consistently delivered the goods. Therefore, the arrival of a new slab of metal from these guys is always a pretty big deal and after waiting five years since The Godless Endeavor, we finally got The Obsidian Conspiracy. Right off the bat it becomes obvious The Obsidian Conspiracy is a bit of a departure for Nevermore. While the trademark Nevermore elements are all still present, long-time fans may notice this is less complex and more accessible than The Godless Endeavor and other older works. Now, before diehard Nevermore fans get their panties in a bunch and jump out a window, this is still classic Nevermore and a very technical album with some very heavy moments. Additionally, this is far from some pop metal album. When I say accessible, I mean in the context of past Nevermore albums, which could be very dense and heavily technical and require patience to get into. Perhaps the added accessibility comes from a growing maturity as songwriters or maybe some of it bled over from Dane’s solo album. Whatever the cause, the result is a collection of well crafted songs which ebb and flow very well from mood to mood. The 2022 Brutal Planet Records GoldMax CD remaster includes two hard-to-find bonus tracks (and a foil-stamped Ltd band Collector Card) along with an expanded booklet with lyrics and band pics!

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT NEVERMORE - POLITICS....
Things start on a decidedly jarring note, opting to nail things dead on with a series of fast and complex riff monsters that draws one into a dreary world of unfocused angst.

ABOUT THE ALBUMS
Leaner, meaner, heavier, and more technical than anything Sanctuary ever did. The song "The Seven Tongues of God" will hook you immediately. "Politics" is melodic, progressive but heavy as any thrash band. "The Seven Tongues of God" is a KILLER song, matching, if not surpassing the intensity of Sanctuary's "Battle Angels." WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT NEVERMORE - DEAD HEART IN A DEAD WORLD....
With Dead Heart, Nevermore not only released one of the very best metal albums of the year 2000, they also created a sound through which they would eventually achieve heavy metal perfection.
ANGRYMETALGUY.COM
ABOUT THE ALBUM
Dead Heart in a Dead World may have arrived hot on the heels of Dreaming Neon Black, but it did so with some immediately noticeable differences. The opening salvo of “Narcosynthesis” reveals a beefier guitar sound thanks to Jeff Loomis transitioning to the seven-stringed version of the instrument — a move fueled by his longtime love for Meshuggah. Coupled with the Andy Sneap production, the move to the seven-string seemed to finally make audible a sinister heaviness that had always resided latently within the Nevermore sound of old. The album also saw Dane taking on a more diverse vocal approach as he manages to nail powerful ballads like “Evolution 169” and “The Heart Collector” while also savagely laying waste on tracks like “Engines of Hate” and “We Disintegrate.” The result of all of these changes was a record that was not only heavier than Nevermore‘s previous output, but also more immediately accessible. And it couldn’t have come at a better time. Dead Heart in a Dead World was released a few weeks before Linkin Park‘s Hybrid Theory — arguably the height of the mainstream nü metal movement. Its combination of down-tuned, chugging riffs, stratospheric shredding and brutal thrashing served as a bridge between two worlds, equally capable of pleasing casual fans of heavy radio-friendly music and true metalheads alike. A song like “The River Dragon Has Come” seems as if it was specifically designed to lure wide-legged-pants-wearing nü metal punks into the metal underground with its massive grooves, Dane’s dramatic vocals, and one of Loomis’ all-time greatest solos, and the band’s devastatingly heavy cover of Disturbed‘s “The Sound of Silence” makes it seem as if the song was always meant to be performed by Nevermore. With Dead Heart, Nevermore not only released one of the very best metal albums of the year 2000, they also created a sound through which they would eventually achieve heavy metal perfection. The stage may be empty now, but each time fans spin this record, they are reminded that even when we feel like we can believe in nothing else, we can believe in Nevermore. The 2022 Brutal Planet Records GoldMax CD remaster includes three hard-to-find bonus tracks (and a foil-stamped Ltd band Collector Card) along with an expanded booklet with lyrics and band pics!
