Originally released in 1986, Fearful Symmetry stands as the fourth and final chapter of Daniel Amos' extraordinary four-album Ā”Alarma! Chronicles series. Following Ā”Alarma!, DoppelgƤnger and Vox Humana, the album brought one of Christian alternative music's most ambitious artistic cycles to its conclusion while continuing DA's remarkable evolution far beyond the band's earlier roots.
By Fearful Symmetry, DA was operating in a musical world where art-rock, synth-pop, new wave and atmospheric pop could exist comfortably alongside Terry Taylor's distinctive songwriting. The result is an album that is intelligent, melodic, atmospheric and unmistakably DA.
The album moves from the haunting opening of "A Sigh For You" through songs including "The Pool," "Sleep Silent Child," "Neverland Ballroom," "Strong Points, Weak Points," "Instruction Thru Film," "When Moonlight Sleeps (On The Frosted Hill)," "Sudden Heaven," "Shadow Catcher" and "Beautiful One."
At the center of the record is Terry Taylor, joined by Ed McTaggart, Tim Chandler, Greg Flesch and Rob Watson, with additional contributions from Alex MacDougall, Crystal Lewis, Jerry Chamberlain, Dave Hackbarth and Doug Doyle.
Forty years later, Retroactive Records returns to Fearful Symmetry with a Collector's Edition designed to celebrate both the music and the larger story surrounding it.
The 40th Anniversary edition is pressed on beautiful Cosmic Berry Swirl Vinyl and strictly limited to ONLY 300 copies. The album has been newly mastered for vinyl by Rob Colwell, with cover restoration and layout by Scott Waters @ NoLifeTilMetal.
And this edition expands the original album with THREE bonus demo tracks: alternate early versions of "A Sigh For You," "Sudden Heaven" and "Shadow Catcher." Together they offer collectors another window into material that became part of the final chapter of the Chronicles.
