📖 DA – Kalhoun: 35 Years Later, Finally on Vinyl
Thirty-five years after its original release, DA's Kalhoun is finally available on vinyl for the FIRST TIME EVER.
Originally released in 1991, Kalhoun arrived during a remarkable period in the long and constantly evolving history of Daniel Amos. By this point, the band had traveled an extraordinary musical distance, continually refusing to remain confined to any one sound or category. Kalhoun captured DA as a mature, adventurous rock band capable of moving effortlessly between intelligent alternative rock, atmospheric textures, melodic hooks and Terry Taylor's unmistakable songwriting.
The album features the formidable DA lineup of Terry Taylor, Greg Flesch, Tim Chandler and Ed McTaggart. Taylor handles lead and background vocals and acoustic guitar; Flesch contributes guitars, accordion and violin; Chandler supplies bass and additional guitars; and McTaggart anchors the album with drums and percussion.
Produced by Terry Taylor & DA, Kalhoun also bears the unmistakable fingerprints of the Southern California alternative music community surrounding the band. The album was recorded at the Mixing Lab in Huntington Beach, California, with Gene Eugene engineering, while additional recording took place at Neverland in Los Alamitos. Eugene and Taylor mixed the album at Neverland.
Additional musicians include Dave Hackbarth, Niles Tackett, Greg Kellogg, Dave Raven and Travis Sheets, adding further color to an album already rich with musical detail.
From the opening "Big, Warm, Sweet, Interior Glowing" through "If You Want To," "Kalhoun," "I Will Return," "Tracking The Amorous Man" and "Virgin Falls," the first half establishes the album's distinctive atmosphere. The journey continues with "Gloryhound," "Prayer Wheel," "Note To Anna," "Father Explains" and the closing "Gate Of The World."
Now, for the album's 35th Anniversary, Retroactive Records gives Kalhoun the vinyl edition it never received in 1991.
This historic FIRST-EVER VINYL PRESSING is strictly limited to ONLY 300 COPIES worldwide and pressed on beautiful Amber Smoke Vinyl. The album has been mastered specifically for vinyl by Rob Colwell, while Scott Waters @ NoLifeTilMetal handled the cover restoration and layout for this collector-focused edition.
And because a long-awaited first vinyl edition deserves more than simply putting the original album on wax, the package includes a substantial 4-panel poster / complete lyric insert, allowing the artwork and lyrics room to breathe in a format that simply wasn't possible with the original CD-era presentation.
