📖 Saint – Time's End: 40 Years of Christian Metal History
There are Christian metal albums that are remembered fondly – and then there are albums that helped define what Christian heavy metal could be. Saint's Time's End belongs firmly in the latter category.
Originally released in 1986, Time's End captured Saint delivering uncompromising traditional heavy metal at a pivotal moment in the development of the Christian metal scene. With the commanding vocals of Josh Kramer, the guitar work of John Mahan, the bass and songwriting foundation of Richard Lynch, and the powerful drumming of Brian Willis, Saint created an album whose muscular riffs, soaring vocals and unmistakable metal attack have endured for four decades.
"In the Night," "Island Prisoner," "Space Cruiser," "Time's End," "Primed & Ready," "Destroyers," "Phantom of the Galaxy" and "Steel Killer" helped establish an album that would become an essential part of Saint's legacy. The combination of melody, aggression, apocalyptic imagery and classic 1980s heavy metal made Time's End an album Christian metal fans would continue discovering and celebrating long after its original release.
But the finished album tells only part of the story.
For this special 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition, founding member Richard Lynch contributes an exclusive 524-word retrospective taking fans behind the scenes of the album's creation. Lynch recalls the lineup changes surrounding the record, John Mahan's departure and eventual return, Dee Harrington's time with the band, drummer problems that left Saint arriving at Falcon Studio without a drummer, and engineer Dave Loar bringing in Brian Willis to perform the drum tracks.
And then there was the clock.
Saint had a budget that gave them just two weeks to record nine songs.
Out of those circumstances came an album that would outlive the uncertainty surrounding its creation and become one of the defining releases in the Saint catalog.
Lynch's retrospective eventually brings the story forward nearly four decades. As Saint prepared to return to Europe in 2025, another generation of musicians who had grown up as Saint fans were now helping carry this music forward. Songs created during a turbulent period in the band's history were still being rehearsed, performed and celebrated nearly forty years later.
For this anniversary edition, Saint went even further.
Two classics from Time's End were newly re-recorded in 2025/2026 specifically for this expanded edition: the album-opening "In the Night" and fan favorite "Island Prisoner." These aren't old demos or previously circulated archival tracks. Saint returned to the songs decades later and recorded them again, creating a unique musical bridge between Time's End in 1986 and Saint forty years later.
Now Retroactive Records celebrates this landmark album with the vinyl presentation collectors have been waiting for: gorgeous Purple Majesty Vinyl, newly remastered audio, two newly re-recorded bonus tracks, Richard Lynch's exclusive 524-word retrospective, vintage photographs and memorabilia, and – for the first time in the album's 40-year history – a deluxe gatefold jacket.
