🎸 About the Album
Forgotten Disciple – Last Train to Heaven
The San Francisco Bay Area is legendary for its contributions to American heavy metal, but beyond the internationally recognized bands lies an extraordinary collection of lesser-known musicians and recordings. Some of the most interesting discoveries are found among the underground groups that never received the attention their music deserved. Forgotten Disciple is one of those bands.
Originally known as Disciple, the group emerged from the Bay Area metal underground around 1990, bringing together musicians with connections to cult favorites including Rellik, Rapid Fire, Hellhound, and Tyton. Their sound belonged to the melodic side of traditional American heavy metal, drawing on the powerful guitar work, memorable songwriting, and unmistakable atmosphere of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Although the band recorded original material during 1990 and 1991, these recordings remained unreleased for more than two decades. For collectors who appreciate the overlooked corners of American heavy metal history, that makes Last Train to Heaven a particularly interesting discovery.
In 2014, Stormspell Records gathered eight recordings from the band's previously unreleased EP and demo sessions and issued them under the name Forgotten Disciple. Released as part of the label's RED-WHITE-HEAVY series, this anthology finally made the band's early material available to a new generation of heavy metal listeners.
The collection opens with "Flesh Weapons" before moving into the title track, "Last Train to Heaven." Songs including "The Devil Made Me Do It," "Company of Wolves," "Skulls," and "Paper Dolls" continue the journey through the band's archival recordings, while "Seasons of Cold" and "Pleasure & Pain" round out the eight-song collection.
Adding to the release's collector appeal is its cover artwork by Bob McLeod, the acclaimed comic-book artist whose work has appeared in publications from Marvel and DC Comics. It's a fitting visual contribution to a release dedicated to preserving a little-known chapter of the American metal underground.
There is something especially rewarding about discovering music that was recorded decades ago but remained largely unheard. Last Train to Heaven offers precisely that experience: a chance to explore eight recordings from a band with genuine connections to the Bay Area's underground heavy metal history.
For Fans Of: Rellik, Rapid Fire, Hellhound, Tyton, and obscure American melodic heavy metal. If you enjoy uncovering forgotten recordings from the classic metal era, this Stormspell Records release deserves a listen.
