ABOUT THE ALBUM

Galactic Cowboys return with What Planet Are You From?, delivering the unmistakable combination of heavy metal power, progressive rock complexity, and soaring vocal harmonies that has distinguished the band for decades.

Since emerging from Houston, Texas, Galactic Cowboys have occupied a musical world of their own. Combining thunderous riffs, sophisticated arrangements, unexpected rhythmic twists, and Beatles-inspired harmonies, the band developed a sound that bridges heavy metal and adventurous progressive rock.

Their first new studio album since 2017, What Planet Are You From? finds original members Ben Huggins, Monty Colvin, and Dane Sonnier returning to the band's heavier musical roots without sacrificing the melody, musicianship, and creativity that longtime fans have come to expect.

The album carries special significance as it features the final studio recordings of drummer Johnny Simmons, whose powerful performances helped define the Galactic Cowboys sound. Simmons passed away after recording his drum parts, and the completed album stands as a lasting tribute to his musical legacy.

Released independently on the band's own Cosmic Outpost Records, this 2026 album was brought to life through a successful fan-supported Kickstarter campaign. Produced by Galactic Cowboys and D.A. Karkos, mixed by Landis Chisenhall, and mastered by Bob Boyd, the album brings the band's distinctive musical vision into a new chapter.

The 2-LP black vinyl edition presents all 13 tracks across four sides in a beautiful gatefold jacket featuring original artwork by Monty Colvin, with art direction and layout by Christopher Levy. The striking cosmic imagery and elaborate interior artwork make this an especially appealing edition for vinyl collectors.

Heavy, melodic, progressive, and unmistakably Galactic Cowboys. What Planet Are You From? is a welcome return from one of progressive metal's most distinctive bands.
