🎸 Chris Manning – Requiem of Time
Big guitars, powerful melodies, atmospheric songwriting, and an exceptional guest list – Chris Manning returns with his most expansive album to date.
NoLifeTilMetal Records presents Requiem of Time, the new album from melodic rock guitarist, songwriter, and recording artist Chris Manning.
Following his previous releases on NoLifeTilMetal Records, Requiem of Time continues Manning's evolution as a guitar-driven hard rock artist with a strong sense of melody, atmosphere, and cinematic direction.
Across ten tracks, Manning brings together classic hard rock influences, melodic metal energy, progressive textures, powerful vocals, and his distinctive approach to thematic guitar work. This isn't simply a guitarist's showcase. The songs come first, with Manning using the guitar to build atmosphere, emotion, hooks, and identity rather than treating every track as an excuse for technical excess.
Once again, Manning teams with vocalist and co-writer Cris Hodges, whose powerful performances and melodic hooks give the album much of its vocal character. The combination of Hodges' voice and Manning's guitar work allows Requiem of Time to move naturally between muscular hard rock, darker alternative textures, progressive passages, and more atmospheric territory.
And then there is the remarkable guest list.
Former KISS and Union guitarist Bruce Kulick appears on opening track “Frequency,” adding his unmistakable melodic guitar voice to the album. Kulick has praised Manning as a unique guitarist with a visionary approach and an exceptional attention to detail.
Dug Pinnick of King's X brings his unmistakable bass presence to “Fool's Gold,” making for a particularly natural collaboration given the album's combination of heavy grooves, melody, atmosphere, and adventurous hard rock.
The atmospheric instrumental “Ghosts of Dragon Lake” features legendary bassist Jimmy Haslip, whose extraordinary career includes Yellowjackets, Allan Holdsworth, Tommy Bolin, Marty Friedman, and countless other projects. Haslip described the track as an “exquisite sonic and textural landscape,” which captures the cinematic side of Manning's songwriting particularly well.
The record also features Rick Read on bass and keyboards, Max Saidi on drums, Tim Beamguard on acoustic guitar, Aiden Hass on select rhythm guitar, and David Downum on bass.
Requiem of Time was produced by Chris Manning and Eric Delegard, executive produced by Bill Bafford, mixed by Delegard at Reel Time Audio, and mastered by Rob Colwell.
Musically and lyrically, the album covers considerable ground. The searching, atmospheric pull of “Frequency” and “It's About Time” gives way to the heavier attack of “13 Keys” and “How The Story Goes,” while songs including “Fool's Gold,” “Goodbye to the Sorrow,” and “Higher Light” bring additional emotional weight.
Throughout the album, Manning wrestles with themes of time, truth, struggle, freedom, loss, and the search for something beyond the noise. Those themes help give the record cohesion even as the music moves between classic hard rock, progressive influences, alternative heaviness, and cinematic textures.
The album closes by returning to one of Manning's musical foundations with his interpretation of “Strange Ways,” the Ace Frehley-penned KISS classic originally recorded for Hotter Than Hell. It's a fitting conclusion for an album created by a guitarist whose musical vocabulary was shaped by the classic guitar heroes of the 1970s and '80s but who continues to push his own music forward.
Manning's history reaches well beyond his solo recordings. He was featured in the December 2008 issue of Guitar Player magazine and is a founding member of The Zeppelin Project, the longest-running Led Zeppelin tribute band in Texas.
NoLifeTilMetal Records' Scott Waters describes Manning as not only a shredder but a “masterclass songwriter.” That distinction is important. Requiem of Time certainly has the musicianship to appeal to serious guitar fans, but its greatest strength is the way that musicianship is placed in service of memorable songs.
The NoLifeTilMetal Records CD edition comes housed in a jewel case with a 12-page photo and lyric booklet, giving collectors a substantial physical presentation for the album.
For fans whose musical sweet spot runs through Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin, George Lynch, Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, KISS, and King's X, Requiem of Time delivers melodic hard rock with weight, atmosphere, musicianship, and a modern cinematic edge. NOW SHIPPING!
