More than a reunion. More than nostalgia. Fields of Sorrow is the full-length comeback album Fear Not fans waited roughly three decades to hear – presented here on BLACK VINYL and limited to only 200 copies!
The Fear Not story reaches back to the early 1990s, when the musicians were originally known as Love Life. That band released Goodbye Lady Jane through Blonde Vinyl in 1991 before catching the attention of acclaimed producers John & Dino Elefante.
As the band developed, a new chapter began. Love Life became Fear Not, and the musicians worked with the Elefantes on the self-titled Fear Not album released through Pakaderm Records.
The album earned Fear Not a dedicated following and sent the band out to perform across the United States. But despite the momentum, the hoped-for second album never materialized. Life intervened, the musicians went their separate ways, and Fear Not became one of those bands whose fans were left wondering what might have come next.
Then came Roxx Records.
In 2017, Roxx tracked down the band and worked with the musicians on a redesigned and remastered reissue of their classic debut. The album returned in limited-edition CD form and, for the first time, on vinyl.
But something much more important happened along the way: the original Fear Not musicians reconnected.
That renewed relationship eventually turned into something fans had waited decades for – brand-new Fear Not music. The reunited musicians were joined by vocalist Eddie Green, a seasoned singer who had previously fronted the metal band Even The Dogs.
The path to a new full-length record was anything but easy. The musicians faced the disruption of the worldwide pandemic along with illness, the deaths of loved ones, and significant adversity in their personal lives. Rather than bringing the project to an end, those experiences became part of the inspiration behind the music.
The result was Fields of Sorrow – Fear Not's long-awaited sophomore full-length album and a record carrying considerably more emotional weight than a typical reunion release.
Musically, Fear Not returned with plenty of the heavy guitars, melodic hooks, gritty vocals, and hard rock foundation that attracted listeners to the band in the first place, but this is not a band attempting to recreate 1992.
Fields of Sorrow sounds like musicians who have actually lived through the decades separating the two albums. The songs wrestle with the realities of pain, loss, struggle, brokenness, faith, perseverance, and hope, giving the record a mature emotional center.
From the opening attack of “Riptide” and “Voluntary Madness” through the title track, “Lay It All Down,” “Black Soul Sunshine,” and “Beautifully Broken,” Fear Not balances heaviness with strong melodic songwriting.
The second side continues with “Struggle,” “Into The Grave,” and “American Prayer” before adding two bonus tracks, “God's Country” and “Carry Me (Reprise).”
