🎸 Jet Circus – Look At Death Now
Jet Circus returned with a vengeance on Look At Death Now – a heavier, darker, groove-driven hard rock album that reinvented the band while retaining the creative personality that made its debut so distinctive.
Jet Circus first made its mark with Step On It, an adventurous debut that refused to stay inside the boundaries of a single rock style. By the time the band returned with Look At Death Now in 2005, however, Jet Circus had undergone a significant transformation.
Founding member Ez Gomér, previously known as the band's bassist and backing vocalist, stepped into the lead-vocal role following the departure of Terry Haw and became the driving creative force behind the album.
The musical direction changed with him.
Where Step On It could jump unpredictably between styles, Look At Death Now is considerably heavier and more focused. Crunchy and sometimes fuzzy guitar riffs collide with gritty bass lines, monster grooves, soaring leads, aggressive vocals, and a healthy dose of hard rock attitude.
The opening stretch makes that transformation immediately apparent. “One Dime Scape Goat,” “Man Ruler,” “Godless Happiness,” and the title track hit with a direct, muscular hard rock attack, establishing the album's heavier personality.
But Jet Circus never becomes one-dimensional. Tracks such as “The Way You Bless Me” and “Fears Of Tomorrow” introduce a more melodic and atmospheric side, giving the record dynamics beyond its heavier material.
Contemporary reviews consistently recognized that balance. Critics praised the album's crunchy guitar work, heavy grooves, strong leads, energetic performances, and Gomér's ability to move between lower-register vocals and more aggressive high-end singing.
