Stories: The John Elefante Collection brings together 19 songs from an extraordinary career spanning Kansas, Mastedon, acclaimed solo albums, soundtrack work, and decades of melodic and progressive rock.
John Elefante first reached an international audience when he became the lead vocalist and keyboardist for Kansas, appearing during an important early-'80s chapter in the legendary band's history. His powerful, instantly recognizable voice became a defining part of albums including Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures.
But Kansas represents only one part of Elefante's story. Working closely with his brother Dino Elefante, John went on to create Mastedon, produce an extensive catalog of Christian rock, and establish a solo career that moved comfortably between melodic rock, AOR, progressive rock, and contemporary Christian music.
Stories brings those different chapters together rather than concentrating on a single era. Kansas is represented by “Fight Fire With Fire” and “Play the Game Tonight,” while Mastedon contributes “Taken Down Below” and “Revolution of Mind.”
Elefante's solo career receives substantial attention through selections from Windows of Heaven, Corridors, Defying Gravity, On My Way to the Sun, and The Amazing Grace. The collection also includes “Young And Innocent” from the St. Elmo's Fire soundtrack.
