💀 Mortification – Scribe of the Pentateuch / Re-recorded Classics 2009

Soundmass Records continues its chronological Mortification vinyl series with the first-ever vinyl release of 2012's Scribe of the Pentateuch – backed on Side B by the complete Re-recorded Classics 2009. Even better for collectors, this black vinyl edition is limited to an incredibly small pressing of only 100 copies.

Few Christian metal bands have built a catalog as diverse as Australia's Mortification. Across decades of recording, the band has moved through death metal, grind, thrash, groove metal, power metal, traditional heavy metal and even touches of punk while maintaining an identity unmistakably its own.

Their importance extends well beyond Christian metal. Releases through major metal labels including Nuclear Blast and Metal Blade, international touring, and albums such as Scrolls of the Megilloth and Post Momentary Affliction established Mortification as one of the most significant Christian extreme metal bands to emerge from the 1990s.

By the time Scribe of the Pentateuch arrived in 2012, Mortification had reached its 15th studio release while continuing to experiment rather than simply recreating its early death metal albums. The six tracks on Side A combine high-energy thrash with the death metal foundation for which Mortification is known, while incorporating elements of doom, classic heavy metal and NWOBHM.

The band cited influences including Arch Enemy, Pestilence, early Helloween, Master and early Death around this material, giving Scribe of the Pentateuch an interesting position within Mortification's constantly evolving catalog.

But this LP doesn't stop there. Side B contains the complete Re-recorded Classics 2009, originally released by Nuclear Blast as part of Mortification's Twenty Years in the Underground anniversary CD.

Those recordings brought the band's 2009 lineup back to five established Mortification songs: “Nocturnal,” “Grind Planetarium,” “Impulsation,” “Hammer of God” and “The Majestic Infiltration of Order.” Rather than attempting to duplicate the original recordings, the songs reflect Mortification's later tuning, vocal approach and heavier thrash-oriented sound, making them distinct versions of familiar material.

For this Soundmass edition, Scribe of the Pentateuch has been remastered for vinyl, while the original cover artwork by Esly Stampek finally receives the full-sized LP presentation it deserves.

With two complete Mortification releases together on one LP and only 100 black vinyl copies produced, this is an exceptionally limited addition to the Soundmass Mortification vinyl series. NOW SHIPPING!
