ABOUT THE ALBUM
Roxx Records continues its mission of resurrecting forgotten Christian rock and metal treasures with another long-lost underground classic — one that has remained a personal favorite of ours for years. This time, we proudly shine the spotlight on Sentry, a powerful East Coast hard rock band whose music deserved far more attention than it ever received during its original era.
As with all true Roxx Records collector editions, SENTRY Anthology receives the full “white glove” restoration treatment. That means a powerful remaster by Rob Colwell of Bombworks Sound, paired with stunning new artwork and layout design by Scott Waters of NoLifeTilMetal Graphics, all created in collaboration with the band themselves to ensure this release receives the respect it has always deserved.
The story of Sentry begins in 1982 in Quincy, Massachusetts, where the band emerged from the growing East Coast Christian hard rock scene. Featuring David McCreary on lead vocals and guitar, Steve Knepper on bass, Tim Knepper on keyboards, and original drummer Tim Jenkins, Sentry quickly built a reputation for energetic live performances, melodic songwriting, and a polished hard rock sound that blended powerful hooks with arena-sized ambition. In 1985, Jeff Stewart would take over behind the drum kit as the band continued evolving and expanding its reach.
Throughout the 1980s, Sentry became a staple of the regional scene, sharing stages with fellow Christian hard rockers Fury and performing regularly at legendary Boston-area venues including The Channel — a club famous for hosting countless rising rock acts of the era, including Extreme and many others who would later achieve national recognition.
After years of performing live and building momentum, Sentry independently released their first demo, Breakin’ Free, in 1988. The response encouraged the band to keep pushing forward, leading to the release of their second and final demo, Sick of the Darkness, in 1989. The band continued performing into the early 1990s, but like many independent hard rock bands of the era, they eventually faded into obscurity before ever receiving the wider recognition they deserved.
Until now.
SENTRY Anthology collects both classic demo releases in their entirety, fully remastered and restored for the first time ever. The collection also includes a previously unreleased bonus track along with an all-new 2026 recording of the band’s signature song, “Sick of the Darkness,” reconnecting fans with the energy and spirit that made Sentry such a beloved underground favorite.
This expanded collector’s edition includes a 12-page booklet loaded with photos, lyrics, and historical content, and will be strictly limited to just 500 copies worldwide.
For fans of melodic hard rock in the spirit of Whiteheart, Idle Cure, Petra, Guardian, and classic late-80s arena rock, SENTRY Anthology is an essential rediscovery decades in the making.
