Steve Camp's 1985 classic Shake Me To Wake Me returns in 2026 as a newly remastered, limited-edition CD from Girder Records – only 300 copies!
By the mid-1980s, Christian rock and CCM were rapidly changing. Bigger guitars, expansive keyboards, polished production, and arena-sized hooks were becoming increasingly prominent, and Steve Camp was right in the middle of that evolution.
Shake Me To Wake Me captures Camp at a particularly strong point, combining the polished AOR and pop-rock production of the mid-'80s with the direct, challenging lyrics that had become central to his identity as an artist.
The album is packed with strong material. “Lazy Jane” delivers one of its most immediate rock moments, while “Stranger To Holiness” became a major CCM track, reaching #5 on the charts.
Camp also tackles Keith Green's “Asleep In The Light,” a song particularly well suited to his own urgent lyrical approach. Other highlights include “Bad News For Modern Man,” “On The Edge,” “Going Through The Motions,” and the title track.
