Some albums don't waste time introducing themselves. They simply come out swinging. The Agony Scene's Get Damned is one of those records. From the opening seconds of "Barnburner," it's immediately apparent that the Tulsa, Oklahoma outfit has come armed with jagged guitars, relentless percussion, and Mike Williams' unmistakably vicious vocal attack.

Originally released by Century Media Records in 2007, Get Damned was the band's third full-length album. After introducing their volatile blend of extreme metal and hardcore on their self-titled debut, then exploring a more polished and melodic direction on 2005's The Darkest Red, The Agony Scene returned with a recording that pushed their metallic aggression even further.

Fast, thrash-influenced rhythms, punishing breakdowns, and razor-sharp guitar work define much of Get Damned. Guitarists Chris Emmons and Brian Hodges drive the music with rapid rhythmic changes and crushing riffs, while Williams delivers the lyrics with an intensity that rarely lets up. The result is an album that combines hardcore urgency with a particularly vicious metallic edge.

Behind the controls was Andreas Magnusson, whose extensive production and engineering credits include The Black Dahlia Murder, Haste the Day, Oh, Sleeper, Fit for a King, and Impending Doom. Working alongside The Agony Scene, Magnusson helped capture the album's aggressive guitar attack, explosive rhythms, and uncompromising intensity. His involvement connects Get Damned with an impressive roster of modern extreme-metal and metalcore recordings.

FROM "BARNBURNER" TO "OLD SCRATCH"

The album's opening stretch wastes little time. "Barnburner," "Predation," "Dances With Devils," and "Adversary" deliver rapid-fire riffing, abrasive vocals, and hard-driving percussion. "White Nights" and "Rapture" keep the pressure on, while "Rattle Me Bones," "The Opposition," and "Will To Bleed" reveal the band's ability to combine ferocious speed with heavier, groove-centered passages.

There are also moments of contrast. "Deliverance" adds a melodic dimension without sacrificing the album's heaviness. And then there's "Old Scratch," the memorable original album closer, which introduces a clean-sung chorus amid the metallic aggression. It's an effective conclusion to a record that spends most of its running time charging forward at full intensity.

THREE BONUS COVERS — PLUS GUEST VOCALS FROM HIMSA!

This expanded Brutal Planet Records edition adds THREE BONUS TRACKS that highlight the band's connection to punk rock and hardcore. "The Creeps" reaches back to Social Distortion, while "Do What You Want" brings the fast, direct attack of Bad Religion into the mix.

The collection closes with the Dead Kennedys classic "Kill The Poor," featuring a special guest vocal appearance by J. Pettibone of HIMSA. It's a particularly appealing collaboration for collectors of 2000s metallic hardcore and aggressive underground metal.

The addition of all three covers is significant. The 2024 Weapon Records vinyl editions contained thirteen tracks, omitting "The Creeps." This Brutal Planet release brings together the original eleven-song album and all three bonus covers in a complete fourteen-track vinyl presentation.

Collectors will immediately notice the striking presentation. While the 2024 vinyl reissues used the oversized red GET DAMNED lettering, this edition brings the memorable skull-and-spikes illustration associated with the original Century Media CD packaging back to the forefront.

The album is pressed on striking CATS EYE SWIRL VINYL and packaged in a full-color jacket with a 12" x 12" two-sided insert featuring lyrics, original recording credits, acknowledgments, and additional illustrations. Rob Colwell mastered the audio specifically for this vinyl edition.
