🔥 About the Album – XT: Saved by the Blood
After 22 years away from the recording studio, Swedish Christian hard rock veterans XT returned in 2017 with Saved by the Blood – eight powerful songs combining heavy guitar riffs, melodic hooks, Hammond organ, and the unmistakable vocals of Sonny Larsson.
Founded in 1991 by Leviticus guitarist Björn Stigsson and Motherlode vocalist Sonny Larsson, XT released three albums during the 1990s: XT (1992), Taxfree (1993), and Extended Empire (1995). The band's music evolved from melodic hard rock into heavier and more experimental territory, developing a particularly strong following in Japan. Following their final performances in 1995, XT remained inactive until their 2017 reunion.
For Saved by the Blood, Stigsson and Larsson assembled an impressive lineup featuring Peter Carlsohn and Dan Tibell of Jerusalem, alongside drummer Mick Nordström of Modest Attraction. The result is guitar-driven melodic hard rock with a strong 1970s classic-rock influence, combining Stigsson's distinctive guitar work with Tibell's rich Hammond organ and Larsson's commanding vocals. Songs including "Watchman," "The One," "I Will Follow You," and "What's Going On" showcase the band's renewed creative energy.
The album's most ambitious moment comes in its final three tracks: "The Last Supper," "The Crucifixion," and "The Resurrection." Together they form an extended musical exploration of Christ's final meal with his disciples, his crucifixion, and resurrection. The centerpiece is the remarkable 12-minute-plus "The Crucifixion," demonstrating XT's progressive influences while maintaining the band's melodic hard rock foundation.
Released by Talking Music in October 2017, Saved by the Blood was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Björn Stigsson at BTS Studios in Sweden. Featuring an accomplished lineup of Christian hard rock veterans, the album marks an impressive return for XT and an essential addition for fans of Leviticus, Jerusalem, Deep Purple, and classic European melodic metal.
